Recently, the New York Times posed this question in its “Room for Debate” forum: “Americans pride themselves on being global leaders in innovation … [so] why is the U.S. losing the green race?” The prompt points to the Chinese government’s sizable subsidies in renewable energy companies and calls Germany “the world’s first major renewable energy economy.” But where the hell, it asks, is the United States?
