The List: Science and Environmental Happenings around Boulder, Week of Sept. 24

Celebrations are in order this week. CIRES Center for Science and Technology Policy Research is celebrating its 10 year anniversary with four panel discussions and a keynote address from Dr. John P. Holdren. The Green Spaces Full Moon Harvest Festival is also coming up this weekend! Head down to Denver and enjoy live local music and a farmers market among other things.

 

Archeological Institute of America Lecture Series: Spying the Past: Satellite Imagery and Archaelogy in Southern Mesopotamia

What? Dr. Carrie Hritz from Pennsylvania State University will discuss how the use of historical images, archeological field surveys and digital elevation models can provide insight into the transformations of natural landscapes in ancient times. She will also address larger issues of human modification of landscapes.

Federal Policy on American Indian, Natural Resources & Environmental Law

What? Assistant Attorney General Ignacia S. Moreno will speak about key issues of the US Department of Justice’s policies in American Indian and environmental matters. Moreno is a leading practitioner in natural resources and environmental law.

CU At The Louisville Library: Water, Water, Everywhere Nor Any Drop To Drink … Safely

What? Recent discoveries have revealed chemicals that mimic or inhibit natural chemicals in our body are causing detrimental effects worldwide to the health of humans and wildlife. Professor of integrative physiology David Norris will discuss the implications of these chemicals on the health of humans, wildlife and future generations.

CIRES Center for Science and Technology Policy Research 10th Anniversary Celebration

What? The Center for Science and Technology Policy Research is celebrating their 10 year anniversary. This all-day event will feature four panel discussions as well as a keynote address from Dr. John P. Holdren. Dr. Holdren is Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and Co-chair of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.

When? Thursday, September 27th, 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Green Spaces Full Moon Harvest Festival

What? This eco-music festival is bringing together local sustainability oriented businesses, nonprofits and programs. Enjoy an on-site urban farmers market, a Denver microbrewery garden, an eco-fashion pavilion, an alternative vehicles showcase and live local music.

Where? Sustainability Park, Denver

When? Saturday, September 29th, 12:00 – 10:00 p.m.

Cost? Free until 5:00 p.m., after 5:00 p.m $10 at the door, $5 in advance.
